Sometimes a surprise can be good. Have you ever had anybody throw you a
surprise party, Joe?
Never.
Is that something you'd like?
Of course. It means you're loved.
Who wouldn't like that?
Who wouldn't like a surprise party?
You must have heard Bobby's story about that, right?
I was there. I was part of it.
Did you know the Patrice background on that?
I feel like I do and I forget. What is it?
Patrice called him up before it.
He goes, Bobby, I got to tell you something.
Your wife is going to throw you a surprise party.
I don't like surprises. She's going to throw you a surprise party.
I just want to let you know because I don't like surprises.
And then Bobby goes, Patrice, what the fuck? I love surprises.
My whole life I'd want somebody to throw me a surprise party.
And he goes, oh, shit.
Bobby, you got to act surprised.
Bobby told me that story on his podcast and his wife was listening.
She got mad again because I think he told her like years later.
Holy shit.
Yeah, my buddy's wife, it was so funny, dude.
My buddy Scott, it was his 30th birthday, I think.
No, not 30th.
I forget.
His girlfriend, his now wife, but she was his girlfriend at the time.
She threw him a big surprise party.
And she's like, you guys got to get him out of the fucking house for like hours.
So I made up this whole thing that I had.
I was I was new in comedy.
I made up this whole thing that I had to show down in Philly.
And we had to go, you know, I got them to come with me.
And then I forgot something and I had to drive.
You know, that was how we were going to go back to his place.
Oh, I forgot this or whatever.
And he's just going along with all of it.
Like, like it's taken no effort.
It's almost weird.
And then the next morning, we're all hung over at breakfast.
He's not there.
And my buddy Jamie's like, he fucking knew, dude.
He fucking knew.
And I was like, how the fuck did he know, man?
Oh, it's the worst.
I go, I thought he was going along with it too easy.
How did he know?
And he goes, it was the ultimate betrayal.
She told him.
She told him?
The girlfriend told him because they got into a fight.
And he was like, you don't appreciate me.
You don't do anything for me.
And she's like, I don't.
You fucking asshole.
Total.
Such a Philly chick move.
I love it.
It's such a Philly.
And she fucking ratted out her own party.
I'm doing a fucking party for you Saturday, you fucking asshole.
And you better act surprised and let your friends fool you.
You asshole.
It's such a Philly chick move.
I loved it.
I was, I thought it was so, I was like, I'm not even mad, dude.
That's fucking hilarious that she just burned him out of spite.
I love that she made you drive halfway to fucking wherever the fuck you drove.
Yeah, that, that, she could have fucking, yeah.
It's like, you fucking asshole.
Yeah.
Like, maybe we could have just taken a pizza.
So how did your friend find out that he knew?
He told him.
He told, my buddy, my buddy who the party was for,
told my other friend at the party and said, don't tell Joe tonight.
Cause he's, cause he was too scared.
I was going to get mad at his girl.
And he was like, don't tell him tonight.
Let's just have fun.
So have a nice time.
Yeah.
I've never had somebody throw me a surprise party.
Never.
No, I don't have any, uh, I don't think I would mind it.
The younger me would have minded.
I've been like all weirded out.
Like, all right, Hey, now what I can do is give a speech.
I'll tell you what though.
The closest I've come is when you took me, when you set up that birthday dinner
for my 40th.
I mean, I knew about it, but you took me to dinner.
And then, then we went to the, to the, uh, union, um, or what's it called?
The, um, Christ, the, the VF, the, the, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
The play American Legion.
Imagine American Legion.
And, um, and then we went in there.
You said we, all you'd said was we're going to go drink at the shining bar.
And we went in, but then you had a cake there and a bottle of whiskey and it
was, it was nice.
That was, that was, that was like a semi surprise.
Yeah.
That was, you know, it was really nice.
It was the whiskey dick of, uh, you know, surprises there, Joe.
Yeah.
I had the same fucking thing set up for you.
And then you got sick and called out of it.
What was that?
For your 50th.
So where's the cake?
It's just rotting away somewhere.
No, I had to cancel it.
Cause you called me the morning of, you're like, I can't do tonight.
I'm sick.
We'll reschedule.
Oh, and then we didn't do it for like two months.
Nobody's going to do it for 51.
Nobody throws a surprise party for a 51 year old.
You got to do it at 50.
Yeah.
No, I had a, I had a cake.
I think the icing said, uh, uh, our little princess became a queen today.
You know, something like that.
No, you gave me that.
Oh no.
I wrote it.
I remember I ended up writing it on the booze I bought for you on the card.
The thing that was supposed to be on the cake.
I ended up just writing it.
It's funny that I remember the joke.
Yeah.
Oh, Joe.
I only turned 50 once and I blew it.
You blew it.
You blew it.
No, we didn't blow.
We had a great fucking time when we did end up going out.
Well, Joe, you know something?
What Bill?
I, you know, I've thrown, I've thrown Nia a surprise party.
When?
At one of her birthdays.
We went out to a bar and she didn't know when all her friends were there and
she fucking
loved it.
Why didn't you invite me to that?
Why didn't you invite me to that?
Joe, I wanted her to be surprised in a good way.
Wanted to enjoy yourself, Joe.
You know, Joe, you're not easy on the eyes.
You know, somebody gets surprised and all of a sudden they're looking at your
fucking mug.
