anthony feels so good to
be talking uh we're gonna be talking uh we're gonna be talking monkey sex toys
donkey penises
and uh anthony back on tour in episode 178 of the jeselnick and rosenthal
vanity project
jrvp junior vice president there are no second acts in american lives there are
however a few hecklers
love it when our producer aaron fades in uh the cover of our podcast as uh we're
doing it on youtube
here uh check us out there if you want to see anthony's reaction and self-satisfaction
to all
the jokes that he has and to me reading ad reads it's fun i mean if people didn't
watch last week's
where it was giant greg head i don't know what's going to bring him to the
table it was uh it's a
delight to watch uh you're you're off the road barely you just came in sunday
night you're on tour
i know i came in monday i came in yesterday monday yeah i did a sunday night
show i added i sold out
all the shows in san jose and they're like you want to add a sunday show and i
haven't been on the road
in song i forgot why i don't like doing sunday shows because you do one show thursday
in a club
one show thursday to friday to saturday and which is great but after the saturday
late show you feel
like you're done so like to stick around all day long for a sunday show at
seven and then you got
to stick around till monday to leave i just never liked that i always want to
get back on sunday and
i did it it was great uh all the shows were really fun it was one of those
where you're like i hope that
people like this and everyone seemed to uh seemed to love the new material love
the i did like a
little q a i do i do some classic jokes at the end to uh just things i haven't
done in so long that i
was like going back through all the old stuff and was like oh i miss telling
these jokes what were
they what was the crowd's reaction to that that part great i mean they it wasn't
like i was like i'm
gonna try some old jokes and they're like yeah but when i do the old ones and
they're mostly jokes
from shakespeare my album that if you saw me on the road then you saw it maybe
in the half hour
uh comedy central presents it was in there but most people don't know those
jokes i have a cd copy
still displayed um it's not really displayed prominently but it's displayed in
our bookshelf
at home wait until the vinyl comes out i got vinyl on the way that will uh we'll
get you uh we'll get
you a copy of that but it was it was really fun and i had like i had a lot of
old jokes that i was
going to do just like oh let me i just went through all the last four hours of
comedy i've done
and pulled out my favorites and then i was doing them i was like i'm sick of
this so let me just pick
the ones i really like you know there's something that i'm like these are still
good but i don't
enjoy telling them the way i used to but doing the new stuff is so much fun you
know my opener that
like when i'm doing it in la um that opener that i've talked a lot about uh
doing it in la people
are kind of like what what's going on but in like on the road when everyone's
there to see me
it's just fucking euphoric i uh i had a great time for all all six shows uh
couldn't have been
happier to be back on the road it's nice doing it sober it's a little different
i feel a little
more uh responsible because like it the shows are fun when i'm when i've had a
few drinks i don't get
wasted but i've had a few and then after the show you keep drinking and then
the next day you wake up
and you're like don't feel great you don't want to go to the gym you're just
like your day is about
getting yourself back together you know eating a big greasy lunch to like deal
with the hangover
that not doing that felt uh felt awesome and liz was there liz was there too
which was comforting
i didn't know how it was going to go and i didn't know if i was going to be the
jerk you know if i'm
i'm like i'm tense before shows and but having her there chilled me out calm me
down we you know
we walked around san uh san jose during the day san jose has changed it's it's
gotten it's gotten much
better it's it's become a lot better and they said that things are kind of
google i guess moved
into san jose so things kind of like the money came in and then a lot of like a
lot of stores
opened up a lot of restaurants opened up and the pandemic took things back a
couple steps but
i had a great time this is the best time i've had in san jose uh since i
started going there a long
long time ago i've never been to san jose it's cool it's a cool uh it's a cool
city i uh i enjoyed
myself this is a pretty big change so when was the last time you were out on
the road truly like out
on tour 2019 20 the special came out in 2019 early so i think it was or like
mid 2019 so i think 2018
that's a pretty big change we've had a pandemic since um we've had a lot of
episodes of the
jeselnik and rosenthal vanity project jrvp junior vice president and uh you're
not drinking now on the
road so this it's a pretty it's a pretty big change so how did that uh you know
how did it
all feel it felt great i mean it really did feel feel great it almost like it's
like you're in a gym
working out and then you go and like try to prove it in the field and you're
like oh the gym is paid
off you know what i mean does that make sense and like i did i think a year of
club 2017 was all
comedy clubs 2018 was all theaters international and then 2019 special comes
out so it's been it's been
five years since i've been in clubs and it felt uh it felt good so yeah i've
got i've got six more
weeks irvine is this weekend irvine six shows sold out had to add one and then
i've got a few there's
a few weekends that aren't sold out but i think phoenix is totally sold out uh
um what's the other
one salt lake city step up salt lake city is sold out it's it's brea ontario
and um oxnard that have
tickets still available so if you want to go to those shows you can those are
the those clubs are huge
but i think uh i think everything's gonna sell out it's a it's a good uh it's a
good feeling well it's
your crowd you know and now that i'm um like an experienced live performer uh i
was thinking about
uh the difference for you you know you're doing uh the comedy shows around la
of course those are
harder than when it's your crowd my point is like we do these couple we do a
couple shows a year
essentially and we know everyone that's gonna go there is gonna be totally for
us and on some level
that that's gonna make it way easier you know just me and you two live
performers it's just more fun
you just you just hope that they embrace the new material the same way they've
embraced the old
stuff and they did i saw a lot of jrvp merch there i had someone uh yell out
what's the dirtiest part
of the human body which was uh which is fun people would ask very specific when
i did you answer
oh yeah oh yeah live butthole challenge it's the butthole um but i and then
there was one time i was
doing uh questions and i was about to go i got a question for you what's the
dirtiest part of the
human body people were screaming so much that i didn't get it out and i was
like maybe i'll leave
that um but there were a lot of people ask jrvp specific questions that i was
like this is funny
to you guys but most people here don't know my podcast so i tried to like this
is from a pod this
is a podcast reference guys check out jrvp i don't want to plug my podcast
during shows
but uh but it was uh it was a great i mean that's a great place to plug it if i'm
sitting in there in
the crowd uh and i'm not a jrvp listener maybe maybe people will be like i want
to get these
inside you know i've done i do shows in la where you've got to introduce the
person after you you
know there's no mc it's like okay thanks you thanks guys next up is andrew santino
and sometimes
people will say you know i'm like what do you want me to say and they're like
oh say tonight's show
say you know netflix special sometimes they're like oh it's telling my podcast
is called off the
beaten path and i'm like no one gives a fuck no one everyone's sitting in their
seats having a drink
ready to watch you do comedy they're not going to like remember your podcast
don't but they're there
for anthony jeselnik and they literally might not know you have a podcast so i
bet there's a segment
of the san jose crowd this weekend and you can uh you can reach out to us at uh
jrvp junior vice
president at gmail.com that learned about jrvp and was like i'm gonna check
that out why are you so
loud that's just what screaming it's so excited do you know what today is i do
because you told me
it's the 20th anniversary of the first time anthony de god did uh stand up it's
not the first time i did
stand up but it is it's the it's literally i've been talking about my 20th
anniversary this is the
actual day that when people would ask me how long when did you start doing
comedy i would think back
i would google when did the movie comedian jerry seinfeld comedian hit theaters
and it was october 11th
uh 2002 so it's 2022 right now 2020 yeah we were still we were living together
2002 we were living
in hayworth we were in hayworth okay i was not in a good place uh it was like
that after college i
think a lot of people deal with this that after college like malaise if you're
like i don't have
the structure i don't know what i'm going to do with my life what's next i
remember we had a talk at
one point where you were like and i think this was after i got into comedy
where you're like it's good
that you have this because for a little while he's like you were like and i
believe this 100 percent
you're like you just weren't that fun to be around you know i wasn't like i was
still kind of me but i
was just i was not happy and no and i wasn't we weren't really having that much
fun like partying
or anything like that really either no it was just we had no money to party i
had no money to party you
had a job you didn't love but i had no job at all and i was just like i don't
know what to do with
my life like and i and but it's you know sometimes people make excuses where
they'll say like oh like
this guy there's he's he's kind of being a dick right now he's depressed and i
always think like
well take care of your depression are you seeing a therapist are you like
taking medication like what
are you doing are you working out what are you doing trying to get over your
depression if you're
just sitting in it i've got no sympathy that i think
