three pre-rolls means the show gonna be a little longer this week anthony uh we're
gonna talk a little
about about breastfeeding uh the hubby little kevin spacey documentary talk and
uh anthony's knife
story all coming up in episode 247 of the jeselnik and rosenthal vanity project
jrvp junior vice
president i'm less concerned than i was 30 years ago about trying to make an
experience extreme
specifically regarding the anti-woke comics today the uncomfortable truths that
they're expressing are
genuinely almost exclusively childish restatements of the status quo or they're
pining for sustaining
the status quo that that they feel is threatened somehow i can't think of a
more tragic or trivial
comic premise than things should stay the way they are that's the absence of
creativity it's a void
rather than a creative notion it's fundamentally conservative and anti-progress
and i strain at finding
humor and the idea that things should not get better
i just thought 247 you know that's how many episodes we have done like let's
bring in some
physical comedy me standing up and giving us yeah why did you stand i don't
know i was just excited
for i like that quote who is it from and i was feeling stirred it was like a
political speech that
i agreed with that is a great quote a quote that i have uh i have uh enjoyed
for you know since i first
read it a few years ago um that is a quote from steve albini uh the great steve
albini passed away last
week it was a tough one um i don't know about music i know i know more about
the music that steve albini
produced now uh after having read like every obituary i've been a steve albini
obituary completist
uh but we had a very dear friend in common um and so i found out about right
away and was consoling
my friend who is now in chicago uh kind of helping out with things over there
but uh steve was a big
fan of rummy uh he met rummy i posted a picture of the two of them together on
uh on rummy's instagram
uh he was he always loved rummy he's always asking pictures of rummy and i
thought we were kind of
kindred spirits in a way of uh going from like being the edgiest person on like
the face of the
earth into like softening as you get older and i read something today it was
like steve albini
didn't lose his edge he just uh did something useful with it as he got older
and i i was obsessed with
his writing i loved his takes on comedy and the way he would talk on music i
thought was legitimately
hilarious and i was a huge huge fan uh steve albini gone at 61 way too soon way
too soon i mean we're
pretty close i had no idea you had a any relationship with steve albini yeah i
mean we like we texted like
through my friend a few times i'll tell steve this she wanted to get steve to
do the music for the new
special uh but he was a really cool guy and really into comedy and i loved his
uh uncompromising uh
morality i mean he was just the most punk rock guy and i loved the amount of he
talked and i
loved how he kind of owned up to his edgelord shit when he was younger without
apology he apologized
but in a way that he wasn't like it was a different time he was like i've grown
i've grown up i see
how kind of how it is now and i i love that read anything you can about steve
albini a fascinating
fascinating guy and uh definitely will be missed you've inspired me too and
just because it's been a
crazy week i i haven't read any any of this stuff and i think about how many
important albums for me
specifically at the time that that he produced surfer rosa pixies like the
breeders first one pod which
to me was a big one obviously the the nirvana albums and i didn't even realize
he produced uh wise
is that how you say ys by joanna newsome which is uh a crazy and great album
which is more recent
probably like 15 years ago but a lot of those like early 90s stuff was my you
know that's that's my
wheelhouse yeah he was great but again again i don't know anything about music
i've learned about
his like stuff but i love the way he talked about the music industry wrote one
of the greatest essays
maybe the greatest essay of all time about the music industry uh a long time
ago that kind of broke down
exactly how fucked you know bands are hated major labels um i love the guy i'm
not gonna get into like
everyone knows the he refused to take points from uh the nirvana album he
produced um but i uh i just
thought he was he was such a punk and uh hilarious pj harvey rid of me another
r.i.p another great one
steve albini uh other than that um i got pasta robles if i'm pronouncing that
correctly in the uh
anthony justly do not get rusty in your two months off uh tour um i'm excited
for this one it's a
four-hour drive look i and i i know i know you're laughing like who would be
excited for that it's
i'm laughing that of the name of your tour are you gonna make separate merch
for this portion of the
tour nope you can buy the same merch from bones and all this is just i'm just
doing shows like that
i can drive to uh we're a short flight near san francisco in the next two
months and this one i get to see
my old boss from my accounting clerk days cindy wise i haven't seen i have not
seen in
probably close to 20 years um at least 15 years is that the job i got you yeah
that's the job you
got me at american dreams and she took me on to uh deadwood and then the unit
and i will see her
and maybe her son uh this weekend so i'm excited about that another thing i'm
gonna talk about i watched
a great special on youtube uh this weekend colin quinn one of the all-time
greats uh it's called
our time is up on youtube and i was like i heard i don't watch a lot of youtube
specials i'm not i'm
like i don't even watch a lot of netflix specials or hbo specials occasionally
i'll watch something
but i was reading online about how people were saying it was great and so i'm
like oh i love colin
quinn i've seen all of his other stuff let me check this out and he's doing it
he's performing stand-up
at a psychiatrist convention and i was like what the is this but it works so
well it's about how
uh it's about how the internet is basically ruining humanity it's already
ruined humanity
and everything he says is right made me laugh out loud so many times there's
one part where he like
fucks up a joke he's trying to make a trump joke and he fucks it up where it's
like dead silence and him
crawling out of that for five minutes made me laugh so hard and then i was
dying at the line he talks
about how like everyone's an influencer no one does anything anymore they're
all influencers
where someone says like oh what is it we got we're hiring this guy what does he
do and he goes what
does he do what do you what do you mean what does he do he sucker punches
people at water parks he's
the voice of a generation and it made me laugh so hard colin quinn um our time
is up on youtube it was uh
it was so so funny and then you guys know listen how many times did i watch
wrath of man this week
just once oh just once but i sat down all the way through watched it enjoyed it
so it's around week
five when the wrath of man um fever starts breaking essentially it's been a
while that you've been
watching wrath of man yeah but it is a great i'm not always paying attention to
write the man i throw it
on and before i know it it's over but there are some scenes i still like to
look up when jason statham
gets out of the back of the truck that's being robbed and the smoke clears and
the robbers look
at him and then just get back in their cars and leave because it's jason statham
i love it so much
but i guy richie wrote and directed wrath of man and he has a new movie out
called the ministry of
ungentlemanly warfare that i decided to watch uh this weekend i'm thinking you
know wrath of man's so
great this has to be pretty great it's not good i still recommend watching if
you can watch it for
free uh the performances are good the guy who's the guy who used to be superman
henry cavill henry
cavill is great in it it got good reviews it got okay reviews but literally the
premise of the movie
like this is this is world war ii this is england versus the nazis the nazis
should be the bad guy
and they're bad in the movie for sure but the premise of the movie is basically
what if every
single person in england wanted to surrender to the nazis except for um except
for henry cavill
um the guy who wrote james bond and then the guy ian fleming and then the guy
he based james
bond on those three and winston churchill are like have to go behind the scenes
to keep fighting the
war because everyone else wants to surrender and i do not believe that's how it
went out and that
was like why don't you just let the nazis be the bad guys why are other british
soldiers being
like you can't do this you're fighting hitler it was weird but i kind of
enjoyed it it's no wrath of
man and that's the most damning thing i can say about any piece of art i think
you need to suspend
your disbelief a little bit for the guy richie i don't think it's supposed to
be like a historical
you know document i didn't take it that way but i'm like but when people are
like you got to give
it up and like no one said that during no world war ii movies like hitler will
be fine he's not that
bad no one ever and it made me laugh but otherwise i just had my netflix show
uh friday a friday night
i uh i did my show i did not know when i signed up for this that i was the the
10 o'clock show downtown
so the audience was a little bit uh late show friday but it was still a fun
show it was at the the
ace hotel uh whatever that's called now and uh theater yeah united theater so i
just did that
got the out i had wrath of man to watch but i did not go to the netflix party
there was a netflix
uh brunch at ted sarandos's house that all the comedians got invited to and i've
seen people like
there's a giant picture they took of everyone there yeah and i'd see i got the
invitation and i was like
okay like that's nice to be invited to something i look and it said like from
like noon to three
1 30 pm group picture and as soon as i saw that i was not going and then i saw
the picture and i was
like yeah i would have been miserable miserable at that thing but good for
everyone who enjoyed brunch
why would you have been miserable i just it's just a bunch of a bunch of your
friends some of my friends
some of their people that i despise and i just do not like just everyone
together kind of like that
is is it's a weird i i don't i don't like it was mel
